My First Giveaway

So I have been toying for some time with opening an Etsy shop.  I sew for a couple of friends on a regular basis and I figured I would give it a go for trying to make some money.  I am a big fan of sewing bags because they can so easily be personalized for different people and occasions.  I am starting with this basic design, however I know I want to make changes to it.  This is how the giveaway will work.  To enter, please leave me a comment about what you like in a tote bag.  Here are some of my thoughts: first, I am wondering if the bag needs to be any bigger.  The bag is 12" across, 9.25" deep and 13.75" tall.  Also, I feel that the bag needs to be lined and have some pockets inside.  Currently, the bag is not stiff, as you can see in the pictures where it is hanging (I stuffed it in the other pics to give the idea of the overall shape).  Should I make the bag stiffer so it holds its shape, or should I leave it loose so you can fill it for the beach or wherever you may use it.  When I decide on my final design, should I do the straps with a contrasting fabric or leave it the same?

So, this is how the giveaway will work.  Please leave me a comment letting me know what YOU look for in a tote bag.  You can comment on some of my questions above, or leave any other tips you might have.  The contest will close next Saturday the 18th at 9PM EST.  Two winners will be chosen and I will be giving away the two bags pictured above.  My goal in this giveaway is to gain some insight before I come up with my final design and not to gain more followers.  However, if you know of others that may have beneficial tips for me I would love for you to share this giveaway with them!  Thanks in advance for all of your help!!

LOVE it! I would leave it floppy, I like the size, lining is a must! A pocket is great but for me it is not a must. I like handles either way, contrast is nice sometimes, but it really depends on the print. Yay for your new shop!!! :) @abcfy

Cute bags! The size is great, lining is a must and so are pockets. I like that the bags can be folded up to save room. Congrats on your new shop!

The bags look fantastic. Lining is a must, but pockets are optional. I like contrasting lining or handles (or both), dependent on the fabric. I like the size, but I think a smaller depth would be fine for most things. Good luck!

Love your bags, would love a pocket on the outside (between the handles,an easy application) lining is a must. Depending on what you'll be charging for your bags, maybe a cotton batting lightly quilted to keep in soft yet a little more formed...good luck with your Etsy Shop..and keep doing what you love.

What I would like in a bag.......two pockets on the outside lined with a medium that will keep the bag dry and the water cold for a while. I like all the things I always need right where I can grab them, wallet, cell phone, camera, etc. but don't like to have to dig down in a pocket for them, let them peek out for me. I also like an outside pocket for tissues, someone always needs a tissue and I don't want to dig for those either and pull out one that looks like it has been used a gazillion times from wallering around in the bag. I love lining and a contrast lining would be great. I wouldn't change the size at all, perfect for everything. Handles, doesn't matter if they match or contrast, just so they are sturdy enough to hold all the stuff I stuff in a bag (a lot of things). I hope I wing the green flip-flop bag, that is so me!! Good luck with your etsy shop and be sure to post a link for us.

How awesome is that bag! Ummm... u have some really valid questions there my dear! I don't make bags myself but I get pretty particular with choosing them! Lol! What I look for is lots and lots of pockets! Many different sizes and some that close and some that r deep etc! But after having all of those pockets and filling them will cause the bag to sag so I like my bags to be stiff (especially the base) coz it needs to stand up! Holds its own so to speak! Lol! And for the top to close fully... so nothing falls out!
I think ur bags would look nice with contrasting handles too...
But I suppose it all depends on the individual too doesn't it as to all of the features one wants on a bag eh???

I hope u get lots of tips! I'm sorry I'm void of those!

Okay here are my two cents, and that is exactly what it is worth! I think the straps should contrast and if there is a way to make the straps stay together (become one) at the top it would be great I hate when you are hauling stuff to the beach and one of your bag straps keeps falling off your shoulder---maybe some kind of Velcro covered in fabric thing that you can use it you want or sell as an add on to an order. Does that make any sense? I need pockets that close to keep some things safe from sand or the option to by other bag to match to go with it. Okay last make it a little more stiff just so it does not collapse and lay in the sand and get gross.

Okay now all that is out of the way, they are so cute, I love the flip flops!!!!

Darling bags! I especially like the paisley one. The size is good, but the bigger the better for me. I've got toddlers and always have a ton of stuff to carry. A stiff bottom would be good. Pockets are really important and contrasting straps would be super cute. Thanks for the giveaway!

So CUTE!! I LOVE the first bag. I think two contrasting/coordinating fabrics would be cute. I also think being able to fold the bag to store it would be a plus. I think it being washable is AWESOME!!! Maybe a Pocket on the inside and outside would be a PLUS, too. Just a small one for a cell phone or sunscreen or something like that :) SO CUTE!!!

Thoughtful questions. I love to make bags. I'm always experimenting with different interfacings. I've ordered a new bag stabilizer and I'll let you know how I like it. When I get around to getting it and using it. IN the mean time I've ordered some of the fabric laminates out there. I want to make a laminated bag (no lining). So I've got several things I'm interested in as well with bag making. I like a bag that is soft but firm. It depends though, on what I want to use it for. I've recently come across this cotton webbing. I'm going to order some for handles. I'll let you know what I think.

Here's a non-answer for ya! I'd love it if you offered choices in fabric, handles, # of pockets, lined vs unlined, etc. Would that be too difficult? Maybe you could just have options. Make a few for picutres for Etsy...and then maybe show several different fabrics to choose from and then let people decide what they want as far as pockets? Would that just be too much work? I don't know. I've never bought a bag so maybe I'm not one to even suggest anything! You know...here in Seattle, we don't go to the beach...the sun never comes out! Just kidding...but...I think your bags are beautiful!!!
